Great LED-LCD, excellent 2D picture, works great with PC
Disclaimer: I actually purchased the UN46C6900 which is the exact same television with a different colored bezel, however all here applies to the 6800 as well.

After doing a great deal of research online and in the shops, this TV really seemed to make a lot of sense in terms of price vs. performance, and after my purchase I have to say I certainly agree. I am coming from a higher end 32" Samsung LCD from about 3 years ago, and have spent time with friends and their various Samsung, Toshiba, Sony LCDs and Panasonic plasmas. Hopefully this review will help you make a decision and also provide some insight into using it for various input sources, particularly with a PC.

The first question you need to ask yourself is if you want 3D... if you're like me, you'll find the added cost probably isn't worth it, particularly if you already have a Blu-ray player (given that you can get a better deal on 3D glasses with a Samsung Blu-ray bundle). For me it would have cost around 0-500 more to go 3D (for the added set cost of the UN46C8000 and two pair of glasses), and after seeing it in person, 3D will definitely get a lot better in the years ahead. Outside of the performance and illusion (which was pretty cool from my in-store demos), the two problems for me in particular were that the basic and advanced rechargeable glasses weren't comfortable with my prescription glasses, and the basic glasses use a non-rechargeable watch/coin style battery which sounds like a pain to deal with. That said I am definitely interested in 3D (particularly for games), in a few years I will likely upgrade looking closely at 3D sets to see if the quality and ergonomics have improved.

So anyway, actually on the topic of this tv! The main reason I chose this particular set was because I was interested in 120 or 240hz LED-LCD (mainly due to decreased energy consumption), and also some type of smart backlight technology to get better blacks. I've also had good success with Samsung sets, and they seem to offer the most models compared to Sony or Toshiba, so I could really dial in what features I wanted (or didn't want). So in terms of features, because many edgelit LED sets historically have been pretty horrible in terms of light uniformity, particularly in dark scenes, I was initially interested in the local dimming backlit LED sets such as the UN46B8500. Desire to save some expense and wanting to get a 2010 model year set (improved firmware considerations), I settled on this particular version given it's "precision dimming" functionality. Of course the challenge here is that the 6800/6900 set is edgelit, so while the same trickery in the B8500 was going to be impossible (turning off light directly behind the LCD), it pulls off a similar effect pretty admirably with a thinner profile and lot less cost. How this works is, first imagine a series of LEDs placed around the entire perimeter of the screen (picture a movie-star dressing room mirror with bulb lights all around it). These LED's can be turned on/off on the fly, dynamic to the content on the screen. For an extreme example, picture a game with a completely black loading screen, but with white text "Loading" in the lower right corner. In this scenario, all the perimeter LEDs are turned off, except for the ones in the corner, so the black areas are definitely black while the text is back/side lit. In some scenarios, where the solo text is in the middle of the screen, you get a bit of a projection of light from above and below, but this is very subtle and generally noticeable only from off center viewing. In dark scenes and places where pockets of black are on the sides of the screen, the precision dimming effect is really great. The design overall is a good compromise between the previous backlit LED sets in terms of price and form factor versus performance.

Regarding power consumption, I'll say I'm pretty impressed. Using a kill-o-watt meter on my complete system alternating both of my TVs (this and Samsung CCFL-LCD 32"), I did a test using identical conditions and watching the same video clip on my Playstation 3. While using this C6900, the system overall drew 80 less watts while watching the clip. I was especially impressed given that this set is quite a bit larger, so at most I was expecting the power savings from the CCFL would be offset by the increase in size. Actually saving power overall is a real bonus.

Regarding performance over different inputs... when using this set, I have the following items connected:
- Playstation 3 (via HDMI through Sony receiver STR-DN1000)
- Nintendo Wii (from component RGB to the Sony receiver, upconverted to 1080i and sent to TV via HDMI)
- PC (Windows 7 64-bit, slow fan spinning ATI Radeon 4850 via DVI to HDMI cable to HDMI1 port, designated for PC)
- Antenna (for over-the-air local HD, I don't have cable or dish, I generally just watch shows/movies through PC, Netflix streaming, Hulu, etc)

NOTE: If you are using a PC with this set there are many special considerations that I have discovered. As with many 1080p sets, to get perfect 1:1 pixel mapping at 1080p resolution, the TV and PC require proper configuration when using HDMI (or in my case DVI-HDMI).

First off, the PC should be connected to HDMI port 1 (labeled for DVI devices). Once you have the PC connected, turned on, it must be set to 1920x1080 resolution (note that if you have an ATI video card, you will also need to set the Overscan Ratio to 100% in Catalyst Control Center, with Nvidia or Intel graphics this is not required).

Second, the TV must be configured properly. There are two ways to achieve perfect 1:1 mapping (or close to it) that require separate settings on the TV and each have their own pros and cons. Both require changing the "label" of the HDMI1 input within the Samsung TV menu:

Method 1: Use the DVI-PC label. This method will provide perfect 1:1 pixel mapping and the sharpest possible picture from a computer. However, I have discovered the big downside is that in this mode, most the TV's bells and whistles are disabled including "precision dimming" and "auto motion plus" (the polarizing smoothing effect introduced with 120/240hz sets). Losing precision dimming sucks (particularly 4:3 content such as videos and emulated games) because you essentially get glowing bars and generally poor blacks, essentially making this TV in PC mode look like the Samsung C6500. This condition also exists when using the PC-VGA port, you lose most of the control over the set and most processing effects are disabled.

Method 2: The DVI Devices label. Initially this method scales the screen funny and does not appear to provide 1:1 mapping, but does enable all the whiz bang effects afforded by this TV (precision dimming, etc). However, much to my delight I recently discovered that by using the screen mode function (the method to toggle the screen between 16:9, 4:3, 4:3 zoom, etc), you can select a "screen fit" mode that effectively scales the 1920x1080 resolution to the total screen size with no over or under scan. The method provides an image that is probably only 98% (read: hard to notice) as sharp as method 1, but in my opinion getting precision dimming back well more than makes up for it. It looks great using this configuration with the PC when playing games (iRacing, Dirt2, colsole emulators), web browsing (text is plenty sharp enough in this mode), watching videos, etc.

Ultimately, because you need to configure the set in this way to get the most out of the PC connection (changing the input label), it becomes impractical to connect the PC via a receiver with all of your other gear connected to the TV via one HDMI cable. I was little disappointed by this initially, but running two separate HDMI cables and occassionally switching inputs on the TV is a pretty easy compromise. You COULD run just one cable, and change the label of the input each time you would switch between PS3 and PC for instance, but the way the TV menus are setup, it becomes a pain, particularly because each input type may have special contrast/color settings. In the end, I have found two HDMI inputs configured independently is substantially easier to deal with.

With all that out of the way, the other inputs via my PS3 and Wii via the Sony receiver look just as fantastic, I couldn't be happier. The color is great and the crispness is there particularly with HD signals. Since I'm a huge Wii gamer (Big props to Sin and Punishment 2, No More Heroes 1/2, Mario Galaxy 2, Zack and Wiki, Metroid Trilogy, and lots of awesome WiiWare games, Cave Story, Light Trax, You me and Cubes), I will concede I'm used to resolution compromises, so I bit the bullet with my old TV and got an upconverting receiver which takes the Wii component signal and upconverts to 1080i to the TV via HDMI. Obviously this doesn't do miracles to the 480p signal (or 480i in some games), but it produces a significantly sharper image than using direct input via component on this TV. Edges are sharper, but yet smoothed out quite a bit, and the colors really pop... Mario Galaxy 2 and Sin and Punishment 2 are particularly striking). I hightly recommend going this route if you're a Wii gamer who wants the most out of the systems's image quality. PS3 of course looks gorgeous via Blu-ray movies and various games I play such as GT5 Prologue, Street Fighter IV and Wipeout HD.

So far so good then, right? Well, the one small criticism I will levy towards this TV is that the viewing angles are not quite as good as was hoping for. I will say that my older Samsung 32", while not having the same black levels and brightness certainly, did hold it's image consistency better from an angle. If you're on center, it looks gorgeous, but move a couch cushion to the right or left (from 7' away), and blacks lighten a tiny bit, move 2-3 cushions and it's a bit more. In a bright room you won't notice, but in a dark room you might. Essentially the precision dimming technique is somewhat less effective from the sides, a general fate of the black performance of most edgelit LED models. Honestly speaking, this should not be considered a significant detractor, and in my experience, the C8000 (the 3D 240hz version of this set) also does the same thing. It is however worth noting, and if you're expecting a perfect picture +/- 80 degrees off center and are extremely nit-picky otherwise, you might be a bit disappointed. Of course, your milage and opinions may vary!

So overall, in the two and a 1/2 months I've had it, this set has exceeded my expectations overall and provided an impressive picture via all my various input sources, particularly PC now that I have it optimized. As a big gamer, particularly of racing simulations, and twitch shooter and fighter arcade games, I do not have input lag issues, and am confident this set will keep me happy for years to come. Perhaps in 3-5 years I will look more closely at 3D sets, but for today and the immediate years ahead, this set is hard to beat for the price. Bottom line, if you're looking at LED-based sets, spend enough to get a model with some type of backlight dimming like the C6800/C6900, otherwise save your cash and get a standard CCFL backlit LCD... don't buy into the LED hype and get a lower-end LED-LCD as a compromise (C6500 and below). Hope this was helpful!

Awesome picture
I bought this tv to replace an old dinosaur in our bedroom. The HD picture is awesome. It feels like you are actually standing next to the action. I have been watching more tv in my room because I like the picture so much. We have a 61" Samsung DLP in our family room and I wish that we could replace it with a larger version of this tv.

No fear purchase from Amazon is a great thing
This is probably less a review of the TV than of the purchase itself from Amazon. First the TV. It is great. The picture is superb, the ease of use and connecting is great and I have nothing but accolades. My biggest concern was buying something like this from a place far away (I'm in south Florida) that has to be delivered, setup etc, connected, etc was how was I going to get it in my place and working. Going beyond the fact that Amazon had great pricing on the TV and the extended warranty (saved over 00 on the total package that was quoted to me from a major retailer a few miles from my home)there was the fear about actually getting it setup and working. But all this went smoothly and the fear was ungrounded. When I purchased, I picked a date and time for delivery. On the appointed day at the appointed hour a truck showed up, a driver knocked on my door, carried the TV in, unboxed it, set it up, connected it to my sound system, cable etc and showed me how to run it and left. Absolutely stunned me that it went so smoothly and efficiently. I have told my friends to have no fear buying anything from Amazon that takes actual delivery and setup. It is done correctly with nothing to worry about. It was a top notch experience. Now if this Samsung lasts as long as my last one (31" from 1993 and now running somewhere else) I will be even more delighted but that is what I have come to expect from Samsung products of which I have many.

Luddite finally makes jump to HD
I've resisted the expense of a new TV for years, but finally caved so that I could watch the World Cup in high def. This TV is awesome.

Fantastic TV
Originally I'd purchased the UN46C5000 but returned it due to awful flashlighting across the screen.

The 6800 uses precision dimming of the led's to alleviate this just like their top of the range 8000 and wow does it make a difference. No flashlighting, super deep blacks, and a very sharp stunning picture. Couldn't be happier.

The other great thing about this TV over the 5000 and 6300 is the addition of Samsung apps which lets you stream HD movies from numerous sources (Netflix, Vudu, Hulu etc) amongst other things - works really well and a great addition.

If you don't want 3D then get this, if you do get the 8000 because you will definitely want precision dimming.

I replaced a 6 year old plasma TV that went out. My TV screen faces multiple windows. With the plasma I had to cover the windows with towels during the day to avoid glare. With this TV any glare is barely noticeable and only when the screen is dark. I'm watching it right now (day time) with the windows uncovered.

I live at 5000 feet which caused the plasma to generate a lot of heat. That thing was hot! I could feel the heat radiating from it when I walked by. It did help heat my house in the winter, but probably caused the TV to give up the ghost. This Panasonic generates very little heat and is hardly even warm to the touch.

The only issue is one I discovered after installing this TV and apparently many LCD TV's have this issue. With the TV powered on my dish network remote would not operate the dish network receiver. After entering the proper code it did operate the TV fine but not the dish network receiver. I had to put the remote withing 2 inches of the dish IR port to get it to function. I had a couple of very frustrating days fighting this thinking it was the dish receiver flaking out. Then I did some research and discovered the interference issue with the LCD TV and various receivers. Different LCD TV's have different fixes. Some fixes I found are: turn CATS on or off on the TV, turn energy savings on or off or adjust back lighting. On this TV you adjust the back light on the TV. This TV adjust from 1 to 100. I found that adjusting it below 45 the dish remote inconsistently operated the dish receiver. At 42 or lower the dish remote refused to operate the dish receiver at all. I set the TV back light at 78 and the problem was solved. My research showed that this issue is not limited to any one manufacturer and indicates manufactures are aware of the issue. The possible resolutions to this issue should be included in the manual.

I ordered an HDMI cable with this TV, but it was shipped separately and am still waiting on it and am only viewing 480i. Even with an analog signal the picture is much clearer than my old plasma. However, with the analog signal I notice some fuzziness with quick moves on the screen. Most notably when using the dish TV guide. As I move around the guide it turns fuzzy for a fraction of a second, but it immediately clears up and becomes sharp. I suspect this will be resolved once I receive the HDMI cable and boost the resolution to 1080 since it's a fairly well known fact that an HD TV picture is less than perfect with an analog signal.

I use the dish remote to operate the TV, but I will note that the TV remote buttons are large and well labeled. The exception is the keys labeled R, G, B and Y. They apparently have nothing to do with the RGBY connection. One wonders why they are labeled this way. On page 11 of the manual it notes the colored buttons are used for various functions and refers to pages 14, 18 and 31 for examples. I could find no reference to these buttons on pages 14 or 18. Page 31 simply says that these buttons are available when their purpose is displayed on the screen. I guess I'll find out what they're for when I need them. I don't consider this a negative because it doesn't concern me. It's just a little confusing.

So far I am really happy with the TV. This is a good looking TV. The bezel isn't huge and the speakers are in back which I like. I had it up and running without ever cracking the manual. I look forward to when the HDMI cable arrives. Though I haven't used all the features I certainly recommend this TV. Just be aware of the IR interference issue and how to resolve it and you will be happy with it.

GREAT PANASONIC LCD TV
Great LCD. Far better than the cheaper plasma versions of the same TV. How anyone could give this ONLY 4 stars... is amazing.
Apparently he thought 623 dollars should buy both a 42 inch huge
screen TV with 1080 resolution AND have Bose Speakers with surround sound. Sorry, it doesn't come with Bose Speakers.
4 star rating was inaccurate... speakers are fine and maybe the guy has a hearing aid who gave it the 4 star rating.
Easily a 5 star item... crystal clear reception, easy to use and a great LCD HDTV. I see almost no difference between this 3 Panasonic and other brands which cost much more money. This should be all you need, unless you are very very fussy... which may be in your cable line or dish... and have nothing to do with your TV anyways. You will like the reception. If money doesn't make any difference, why not buy 20 models... and throw out the 19 TV sets that don't please you... (and hope the one you kept doesn't crap out the next day) Panasonic vs LG is like Mercedes to Yugo. (Yugo was the cheapest car ever made) Ask anyone who works at Walmart how many LG TV sets are returned in a month. You can see PANASONIC TRIED VERY HARD to put QUALITY in this product... IT IS OBVIOUS IN EVERY WAY.

Great value but not legacy friendly
Overall:
I've had this set for a few months now. Despite the little criticisms I have, I think this set is an excellent value and the picture is breathtaking with a 1080p source or even 1080i over-the-air.

Picture:
It's a great display and I have no complaint at all with the picture. It has presets for adjusting the picture and that is a nice feature; I use 'cinema' most of the time.

Chassis:
The chassis is a very elegant piano black and looks nice when it is off. This is actually kind of important when you get a TV this large!

Sound:
The speakers are not great, but they are adequate. They are in the back so you (at least I) need to turn them up more than you would for front facing ones.

Inputs / Outputs:
This is where the 'not legacy friendly' gripe I have shows up, and costs Panasonic a star. The only audio _output_ is a digital optical output. If you have a stereo with a corresponding digital optical input, you're all set. However, I'm willing to bet many if not most homes don't have such an input. This means that you must use the so-so speakers when you use the antenna or an HDMI source that doesn't have an analog audio output (including perhaps some digital cable boxes). It isn't too big a deal for me since movie watching is usually via a DVD player and I run its (analog) audio output through my stereo and it sounds great. However, it would have been EASY for Panasonic to have a legacy analog audio output. On the input side, there is no S-video input. I get why they didn't put this in; S-video is on its way out. However, I have a legacy video camera with S-video output and it would've been nice to use it.

I've used the SD card input and it is slick. They have a way to let you quickly start a slide show of all the pictures in the camera and even navigate around on the SD card directory. It was nicely done and when you see pictures from an SLR camera brought out to a 42" display the 'WOW' factor is pretty high.

I've also used the DB15 connector for the laptop and it worked fine. Be aware, if you want to use your laptop to stream video to this set, you will need a long VGA cable AND a long audio cable. I found a combo cable on Amazon (both the video and the male-male audio cable on one 15' cable) that worked great.

Remote:
The remote is okay, but the buttons are quite close together so it is actually easy to press the wrong button when you do certain tasks. The one I hit most often is VIERA TOOLS when I meant to hit INPUT. I don't have anything that supports the VIERA standard (other than the tv) so I never want the VIERA TOOLS, but I do want to change the input fairly often. The two buttons are right on top of one another and the VIERA TOOLS button is like 3x the size of the INPUT button.

One thing I liked about the remote was a special "sub menu" button that lets you quickly get to things like the signal strength meter. I get my HDTV signals off an antenna so I use the meter a good bit and it is nice not to have it buried under sub-menus. Another cute feature on the remote is the favorite button. You can program several favorite channels and get to them via this short cut.

There are R G B Y buttons on the remote but get this: THEY DON'T TWEAK THE PICTURE. They are used for special functions. Uh, how about using F1 F2 F3 F4 for labels and color code those? Otherwise everyone in the world will think these buttons are for picture adjustment.

I really liked the INFO button; it shows you whether you're looking at 720p or 1080i or whatever and if the show is a digital source the name of the show, etc. The FORMAT button lets you force 4:3 and has a few different 16:9 flavors that are nice to have.

GREAT LCD HDTV!! I LOVE IT!
I just got this TV for 2 weeks. Works great for gaming, Laptop/PC and HDTV. Great picture quality and sound. Very easy to set up! Sometimes, i use an HDMI cable to connect my laptop with the TV, it did a great job as a big size monitor!!!! I am very satisfied! Love it!!!

exceptional TV
I purchased this TV as a gift for my son and daughter-in-law. They love it! The picture is extremely clear, there is no glare on the screen and the set-up was done by my son with no problem. I am very satisfied that they are happy.
The only problem I had was with the delivery carrier. There was an option offered when ordering, that I chose, to have the carrier call me to set up a day and approximate time to deliver, so that there would be someone home to accept. There were several attempts made by the carrier to deliver, but they couldn't because they never contacted me first. After several phone calls to Amazon & the carrier, it was finally delivered.
In spite of the delivery problems, I would definitely recommend this TV.

It was a long search and this seems to be a winner
Owned less than a month but having no trouble learning to use with Sat. TV and DVR. The delivery was joy! The young man brought the package into the house, opened it and set up the new after removing the the old and very heavy set. He assembled the new set and checked that it operated correctly and left with all the bulky packaging. At 91 with bad back I felt like a king!! Hope the TV lives up to its start

Nice TV for the size & price
For the price, this TV is a great deal! The Sound quality is good even without surround sound. Plenty of inputs (3 HDMI). Easy set up. My only Con is the picture quality...it's not the greatest even with a High Def Box, but for the money - I can't complain.

Great Television if you can get the remote to work
Let me say first and foremost that the television looks amazing picture wise. The picture is large, bright, and extremely colorful. Unfortunately, I will never be able to use it to its fullest extent. The remote control that came with the television is a necessity to enable 3D as there is NO menu button or format button on the television. The remote did not function and I was forced to contact Mitsubishi to get a replacement remote which was overnighted to me. This remote did not work either and after purchasing 2 pairs of 3D glasses and the starter kit, I was out nearly 1500 dollars. Mitsubishi is not easy to deal with, so beware of even purchasing the product to begin with. The strange thing is when I called Amazon, they told me they would replace the television, but that they were backordered and would require 1-2 months to replace!!! The reason I say this is strange is because as of now, the site says there are 2 left in stock! I have had to arrange to have the television picked back up and then will be refunded for it after they get it back. They have also agreed to refund me for the 2 pairs of 3D glasses but I have to ship them back first, and the 3D starter kit I purchased from Tiger Direct and have to ship it back to them which is no fault of Amazon's. I figure I will get a total refund after about a month or so after I ordered the television. I love Amazon and have purchased hundreds of items from them, but this one was a total bust. As I stated at the beginning of the review, the television is nice, but it does me no good if the 3D capabilites they promise are not able to be used. It was the main reason I purchased the television in the first place. Considering the price, I know now that you definitely get what you pay for and will wait until the better 3D televisions come down in price some before even thinking of purchasing another one. This was the single worst shopping experience of my life.

A simple TV with a strikingly large, good picture
In its price range, the size and the quality of the picture seems to be far better than average. It works well with indirect or shaded daylight falling on its screen. You'll probably want to back off the as-received brightness and contrast settings to get something a little bit more natural.

This is a simplified box with simplified inputs, outputs and controls.

Unlike a LCD it is about 16 inches thick and has a projector bulb that you may have to replace during its useful life. It takes a good part of a minute to warm up. It also lacks the complex selective contrast-enhancing features of newer LED LCD TVs. On balance, the basic static contrast is plenty high for all but video perfectionists.

It has no analog outputs so that if you want to add an external audio system, that audio system must have a digital (SP/DIF coax) input (stereo), or some kind of time delay to avoid problems with lip synch.

The market for this TV is either someone who wants a basic TV with great picture and OK sound, or someone who is willing to provide the technical resources required to incorporate it into a more sophisticated A/V system with a multichannel receiver, etc. The middle ground where you just plug an analog stereo receiver or some powered speakers into it just isn't there.

Also lacking are networking and internet support. If you want to watch downloaded videos, you'll need to add a PC to your AV system. The PC-oriented video inputs are HDMI so there's no place to plug in the traditional 15 pin analog CRT connector. Of course doing so would be a waste of a great monitor. A PC with a HDMI or DVI output (with simple adaptor to match the TV's the HDMI inputs) can work well.

My new girlfriends name is Mitsy!
I received the 60638 yesterday via Fedex from Amazon thru Modia.It arrived unscathed as they warn you to check the outer box prior to accepting delivery.I set it up in place of my Vizio 47' lcd which was starting to look small,and really does now compared to Mitsys 5 foot screen,the colors are fabulous,but you need to use the 4 picture modes via the video button on the remote according to the situation.This tv is bulky but not heavy by any means,it is light.And it really doesn't take up much more space depth wise than the Vizio 47".I agree with the previous post about 3D being a gimmick,I have no plans to use it for that purpose anytime soon.Hope it lasts it is a great deal at this price...now do some clicking and get yourself one!!!

Awesome TV for the Price!
I was shopping for an HDTV for a few months before I decided to buy this 60" Mitsubishi 60638. I was torn between the 55" Toshiba 55G300U LCD, 73" Mitsubishi 73C9 DLP, and this model (60638). After researching these sets, I decided to buy the 60638 based mainly on its cheap price. There were limited specs available as it's a brand new model, but after hooking it up in my room, I am solely impressed by its size and quality. It is truly a great TV. I had a 2005 62" Toshiba 62HM195 DLP for two years and this new Mitsubishi looks sharper and more color rich. But there are some cons. For me, they were not deal breakers.

PROS:
-Cheap price for outstanding image quality and size. Try to find an LCD over 60" for under a grand!
-3 HDMI
-3D Ready (haven't used this or plan to use it. I think 3D is still a gimmick)
-Relatively lightweight compared to DLP's from a few years ago (my old Toshiba 62HM195 weighed about 30 pounds more)
-Freeze Button on remote freezes the image in its current frame. I haven't seen a use for this yet, but it just seems cool

Not Made in a Communist Dictatorship
We bought this tv for an indoor pool room. The sound on this set is clear, at high volume to be heard in a large room. I bought my first tv with Hitachi electronics in 1988 and at that time it was the best on the market badged Bang and Olufsen. It lasted 18 years. With the advent of flat screen technology I looked for the best technology with Fujitsu. But Fujitsu does not make smaller tv's, but I read that Hitachi is a partner with Fujitsu so I bought the Hitachi 26 inch model. I am happy with it although it is 720p and not nearly as good as our 42" Pioneer. It is the best in this category. The color is very close to reality, not too bright. The blacks and whites could be better. But it offers more picture adjustments than a lot of tvs such as temperature, "noise" and back lighting. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase of this well designed set.

Great TV
I am very satisfied with this purchase. First off, the shipping was extremely quick even on the basic option. TV worked very well right out of the box, easy to set up and get going. Lack of actual manual (one comes on a CD) not an issue so far because the menu interface was very easy to use. There are 2 types of menu on the TV. One is a more in depth menu which allows you to change and tune individual settings (color, contrast, etc.) to whatever you would like and another that is a quick menu that allows for quick setting changes based on different factory presets such as "sports", "cinema/movie", and "standard". These quick settings will change how the picture is displayed and also the volume functionality. The movie setting will make the volume much louder, for example. The built-in speakers seem to be good to me. I am not overly knowledgeable in this area but they do not sound really "tinny" or cheap while watching. Picture is great. Before leaving for school had it hooked up through HDMI to HD tv and sports and other channels came in great. At school on standard cable the picture is more of what you would expect from regular cable. When viewed up close it is not very good, but when viewed from a distance of about 8-10 feet picture is rather good. The remote it comes with is very usable and is rather standard (and therefore easy to get used to). Only thing so far that I do not like is the buttons on the TV for control volume etc. are not standard buttons that you push in. They are on the face of the body of the TV and just "react" to your finger being put there. The volume one in particular I do not like as when you put your finger on it it beeps and then quickly reduces the volume by more than you wanted. Other than that this is a great TV and I would strongly recommend it.

Great TV
Definitely one of the best TVs I have ever used. Actually it is the best, but this is the first LED TV I have ever owned so it is not fair to the others. Great picture, great features, and good sound. I don't know if the sound is good enough to call great, but it is definitely better than all my previous TVs.

The only bad thing about this TV is that the holes on the back of this TV for a wall mount are very close together. The wall mounts that work for the other 8 or 10 TVs in my house will not fit this one. The only wall mounts that work for this TV are small ones that I don't like. Also the manual is confusing because it is made for several different models and the layout is poor. However, most of what is in the manual it common sense.

I am very impressed that so far this TV has got 5 stars on 5 out of 6 reviews here, and 5 stars on all 52 reviews on Best Buy!

UPDATE: By the way, I notice people saying that truMotion is bad, garbage, etc. It actually is not. I found out that sometimes it is choppy and sometimes it is not. For me it is only choppy if I am watching something that is not HD or if it is an old movie that was made before HD existed and converted to HD. But, for shows that is true HD or for games like XBOX 360 it is a good feature. I have mine turned off on my HDMI 1 because it is where I watch TV shows. However, I have it turned on for HDMI 2 since I have my XBOX connected there.

Major issue: From the start I received a prompt that told me something new had been connected to the 2nd A/V input even though nothing was ever plugged into that input. It would come up randomly and sometimes not go away until I pressed ENTER on the remote. Service technician indicated that a microprocessor would have to be replaced. Ultimately decided to return the TV to Amazon because I was still under the 30 day return policy.

The hardware issue combined with the above cons led me to go with a different TV. LG still seems to have weak TVs and LED technology may not be where it needs to be to replace regular LCDs back lights. Went with a SONY LCD and did not have any black light bleeds and the blacks were darker than this TV.

I probably got a bad set, but still: Buyer beware.

I can see!
Especially very good for people who don't know squat about programming the tele for certain color settings the menu makes it easy. LED lighting on an LCD display makes it seem less intense than other televisions of this same quality and size. Best thing is the LG energy saving option saves you more than a few $$ which is a total bonus for these electronics

I like this TV. It has a great picture once you get inside the settings and fine tune the color. The default settings are horrible. The only thing I did not like about it was the sound but if you feed it into a stereo that problem goes away.

Nice thinny with exellent 1080p quality. Easy set up but go easy putting the stand on, the clips could break.
If you have hdmi plugs, use them for best picture quality. The 22inch monitor is small but its perfect for a bedroom or small room. This thinny has LED and LCD so I just had to have it. I know LED's are the newest and price testy so far but this outfit seems to be a great buy.
I recommend another good choice to match this awsume flat screen jewel. Hook a DVD/DVR HDMI/IorP up the unit with the hdmi cables. oooh!!sooo good.

Solid display for direct viewing angle.
A very solid display with good picture - when viewed from directly in front of screen. All LCD displays loose image quality at some angle away from directly in front of the display, but this screen seems to suffer this problem more than average. It's only a minor issue for us, and offset by great picture and great value otherwise.

Outstanding TV
Forget the long drown out reviews - Bottom line this is one outstanding TV. I have read a lot of reviews and worried about all the negatives some pointed out.
For 99.9 percent of you - you can rest assured they are nit picks! This TV has a wonderful picture in both 2D and 3D. You can adjust the picture in a thousand ( exaggerated but not by much) ways so you can have just the way you like it. In answer to some - no buzz - no Blurr - sound is as good an any TV in general but for most you use a home theater amp anyway so not a consideration.
The 3D glasses are the lightest and most confortable of the major TVs now out in 3D. The 3D is awesome and DirecTV now carries 3 channnels in 3D so content is comming.

Samsung PN58c7000
Received the Samsung PN58C7000 via Pilot shipping through Amazon. First, Amazon's follow-up was excellent, providing tracking and Pro numbers to follow the shipments. Because it was a bundled deal, the TV came separately from the dvd player and stater kit. The dvd player and starter kit arrived about two (2) days before the TV via UPS. Pilot scheduled a delivery and the two (2) delivery men arrived on time, carried the TV upstairs, removed it from the box (and disposed of it as well), put it on the TV stand, and tested it to insure that it was in perfect working order with no dead pixels.

I got the calibration settings online from the CNET website. After a few minutes putting in all of the numbers through all of the different screens, I was ready to watch TV. (Also, turning off the motion judder is a must do, whether via update or toggling on and off game mode). WOW! What a picture! The colors are dead on. Skin tone is perfect and all of the colors are right on the mark. Played the 3d movie Monsters vs Aliens and it was as if it was coming out of the screen. Too bad that there isn't much content at present. The 2d to 3d conversion does provide some depth, but not as dramatic as a 3d movie. Since the dvd payer is wifi, I set it up for Blockbuster and VUDU. Although I haven't streamed any movies yet, that aspect seems to work well. First thing it did was automatically update the dvd payer to have the latest software. So far, watched about 25 hours on the TV and have not heard any buzzing whatsoever. Near the end of Monsters vs Aliens, I did hear the fan for the TV, but it only lasted for a few minutes and I have not heard it since.

Great buy through Amazon. Printed the price, went to HH Greg and asked if they could match the deal. They told me that at that price, it was below their cost. Salesman said that if he was in the market, he would buy it immediately. I went home and did. I would highly recommend Amazon service, follow-up and follow through.

Let me save you the time in case you don't want to read this detailed review, then just hear this caveat out: "The PN58C7000 is the GREATEST deal you can possibly get for a new 3D HDTV".

There's so much detail for this review, I don't even know where to begin! It would be helpful to state a precondition that this plasma ultimately replaced a Samsung 42" 720p plasma, which was tipping the scale at 6 years old, but still had an incredible picture for its time. Within the last several months, I spent a lot of time watching 1080p content on my friend's TV, and started noticing the difference. If anyone out there is not a believer that 1080p will blow your old fabulous 720p set away, believe it as it will.

This was one heck of a quest. Let's rewind the clocks a bit as this all started back in December 2008, when I was visiting ABT checking out their newest HDTV lineup. I had been itching to get a new TV, and having had a plasma all these years, I was determined on getting a plasma replacement as the reviews usually include them on the "best HDTVs" list. Anyway, if anyone has been to ABT, then you'll know that by the furniture/appliance area at the entrance of the store, they have home theater seating to sample, and usually have an incredible HDTV on display. Well I remember looking at the regular LCD/Plasma "row display" (near the TV/Audio sections), and looked over by this area to see 3 TVs lined up on the wall. To say the least, those TVs had the BEST picture of any set in the entire store. As I approached, I could see the words "Panasonic" and "THX" enlarged on the wall. They were truly the most magnificent displays I had seen at the time, matched only by the Kuro (which they also had on display in the projector room). Well as it turned out, the TV series was the infamous Panasonic TH-PZ800U. They had a 42, 50, and 58" screen all in a row of 3. I instantly fell in love with the 58" model. I was shocked how much larger the 58" is compared to the 42", which is what I had.

Low and behold, the 800U from Panasonic was CNET's TV of the year, and the second highest rated TV ever, second only to the Pioneer Kuro. Now let's fast forward to January 2010. Since seeing that TV at that time, I instantly was a Panasonic fanboy; I had no choice really now that they were the largest manufacturer of plasmas. I followed the V10, G10, and Z1, all of which received serious accolades. I came close to pulling the trigger on the 54G10 many times, but decided to wait until CES 2010. Boy am I glad I did! With the release of 3DTVs and HDMI 1.4, I did not want to buy an obsolete model. Another major milestone I'll never forget reading about was the infamous CNET/AVS articles regarding the Panasonic "rising blacks" issue. More shocking was Panasonic's arrogance that this issue was expected with no fix. This totally destroyed Panasonic's reputation with me. An entire year of following Panasonic plasmas went down the drain.

At that point, I had given up hope on plasmas, and thus started a new quest: LED. I looked at the UN55B6000, B7000, and B8000 models. Recently I came close to buying the UN55C7000 (3D model), and had a chance to get an awesome deal; actually I would have saved almost this route. Seeing the TV in person really changes you though, the flashlighting (in the corners) and image ghosting was noticeable in the store. The 240hz feature was unbearable as well (soap opera effect). To me, 240hz feels like someone is fast forwarding the scene 1-2x on a DVD. I have no idea why people are pretending they don't see it. I eventually came to terms to getting the Vizio VF552XVT, but something held me back. The picture looked okay in the store, but perhaps it was the design of the TV. I mean, it's really an ugly TV, how can its design even compare with that of Samsung? It's almost a whopping 5 inches thick, which in today's day and age, is just unacceptable. My 6 year old plasma is exactly 3 inches. I felt this would be a downgrade from what I already have as I wanted some appeal as well.

That was one part as to why I didn't want the Vizio. The other was 3D. I have been following 3D for quite awhile now, and originally didn't plan on being an adopter because of the lack of content. However, after seeing that the price deviation from 2D to 3D TVs had dropped to about 0, it was a no brainer. The hard part was choosing LED or Plasma for 3D. After reading numerous threads from owners of both LED and Plasma, I came to the conclusion that plasma was a better choice for 3D, mainly due to its response time. This made me ecstatic as I had originally thought plasma was totally dead. I mean, how could it not be? Check out this list of the only makers of today's plasmas:

1. Samsung = buzzzzzzzz
2. LG = gets mediocre reviews for its subpar quality, and has a mirror screen finish for antiglare
3. Panasonic (the king of plasma) = rising black issue; unimpressive designs (with the exception of the Z1)

I considered the LG PK750 (after reading CNET's review), but couldn't find enough positive reviews; I don't believe I've seen an LG plasma consistently listed on CNET's top 5 plasmas list, or even LED for that matter. I also considered the Samsung B860, as I saw this in person. The B860 was one of the reasons I kept hope alive with plasma. To me, the B860 has an excellent picture, being compared to various LEDs and the Panasonic V10. I even compared it to the PN58C8000 at Best Buy (the 8000 was on the bottom; B860 on top), and honest to god if I couldn't tell which model was which, I probably would've chosen the B860 for its deep blacks compared to the grays of the C8000. I also looked at the VT20/VT25 from Panasonic, but the price premium is exorbitant (close to 0 more than the Samsung). Plus I could care less for the 2 included movies that you get (Ice Age and Coraline). Besides price, seeing the marketing ad from Panasonic that their plasma is an "ultraslim design" at 3.6 inches, is a total joke to me. The Samsung PN58C7000 is 1.4" thick. Coming from a 3" thick TV that was 6 years old, and seeing Samsung's museum style models, ultraslim to me now means under 1.5 inches, or even the new Samsung LED C9000 at 0.25 inches! Panasonic needs to go back to the drawing board on this. Sony also suffers from this pitfall. Their new flagship XBR60LX900, which costs ,500, claims "ultraslim design" at 3.625 inches. Seriously, who are they kidding???

In my humble opinion, if 3DTVs weren't becoming mainstream, I would have given plasmas an expiration date. I feel that 3D is a game changer for plasma. Panasonic won the Best of Show CES award for 3D, and the VT25 is listed as the top TV on CNET, and for 3D. Almost every review I have read comparing LED to Plasma for 3D, I have heard of the same issue: ghosting and blooming for LEDs. Plasmas have an unparalleled ability for response time, which is essential for fast motion 3D. I haven't heard one person NOT complain about image ghosting and response time with an LED 3D set. One of my friends has the UN55C8000 3D LED (which is the flagship Samsung LED that costs B0036WT410,000 more than my C7000), and even he admitted it has ghosting and artefact issues, as well as flashlighting. To say the least, prior to 3D and Panasonic blacks issues, I was ready to abandon ship on plasma technology. Then the Samsung PN58C7000 came along. This was it, and my quest was over. After 18 months of searching for the perfect TV, I now have it. The design is unparalleled, the image quality is spectacular (Avatar looks just as good as it did when I saw it in theaters), and the set is future proof with HDMI 1.4 and 3D. All packed together for a remarkable price of close to B0036WT410,800. We come back to my original statement: "The PN58C7000 is the GREATEST deal you can possibly get for a new 3D HDTV". Enough said. The price to performance ratio is just monolithic.

I should mention that this TV was bundled with the free glasses and C6900 BD player. That's right, FREE. It's almost as if you're getting paid to take a 3DTV off their hands. However, if anyone is curious, I would have done the combo deal with BD player and the free glasses. Why wouldn't I? The kit costs 0 on its own (glasses 0 each). You also can't find Monsters vs Aliens 3D anywhere except eBay, where the price can go up to an astronomical 0. You'd be a fool not to jump in on that deal. As far as I know, Monsters vs Aliens was the first 3D blu ray in existence, and is only included in the exclusive bundle from Samsung. Even if you somehow already own a 3D BD player (like the PS3 which to date does not have the 3D firmware...), you're still better off buying the BD player to get the free kit.

3D Glasses - they are very comfortable and sturdy (except for the arms which seem flimsy). They have a 1 year warranty, so I hope their durability proves the test of time. The nice feature I like is the glasses turn off when contact with the 3D emitter is lost and instantaneously reactivate when the emitter is back in focus (this happened when I was laying on my couch and turned my head away). They also power off when there is no 3D content playing through the TV, upconversion included. Since they are battery operated, this is important. Lastly, you cannot power them on at all until the TV is in 3D mode, which is a really nice power saving feature.

BD-C6900 - an awesome BD unit. The BD discs load up as fast as my old Sony reference DVD player. Also, my friend's first generation Samsung BD/HD DVD player is so old that it takes close to a minute to load up. That's how my old Toshiba HD-A1 (HD DVD) player was. Thank the Gods that you can load a movie in under 15 seconds! The audio is also excellent. I have the HDMI going directly to my TV, and am using the 7.1 multichannel inputs on my receiver. The sound was extremely crisp on my test BDs. I'm pretty shocked at the quality of analog inputs. On my friend's older Samsung BD/HD DVD player, the 7.1 analog inputs sound very dull. A pleasant surprise. I did an A/B test of using optical audio versus multichannel analog, and decided there was too much detail lost when using optical. With bass management being a potential issue, I liked using analog so much I will just jack up the volume on my subwoofer when watching BDs. Eventually I am planning on upgrading to an HDMI 1.4 receiver.

To address the common questions and/or complaints I have read about the C7000:

1. Buzz - I have heard horror stories about this as this is the biggest downfall of any Samsung plasma (my wife's PN42C450 has a low buzz that can be heard on mute). Some can hear an annoying buzz over normal volume. One extreme was comparing the buzz to their refrigerator. Unbelievable how a TV can be manufactured like this! Does mine buzz? Well, I would say no instinctively. Why? Because it does buzz SLIGHTLY, and I mean slightly. Can I hear it with the slightest ambient noise? Not at all. In fact, the only way the buzz is heard is by placing my ear a half-inch away from the screen in the middle. If it is dead silent in the room, and you step back 6 inches, you won't hear a peep. Does that qualify this set as a buzzer? I honestly doubt it. My old plasma buzzes louder. Perhaps it's the fact that I have a 1500 watt amp powering my speakers, but I assure you that if you watch the news at the lowest of levels, you will not hear a buzz. When I started reading about the Samsung buzz issues, I put my old plasma on mute one day, and low and behold there was a buzz.

In fact, the buzz on my former plasma is actually 100 times louder than on the C7000. Even on my old set, with the tiniest bit of audio from the TV, you can't hear it at all. If I can't hear it watching regular TV, then I doubt it will be an issue when I watch with my home theater at 75-80 decibels. It's true, all (or most) plasmas have a buzz. This is something I wasn't aware of (I'm the only plasma owner I know). However, I never noticed it in 6 years until I heard complaints about Samsung. I can't tell you how worried I was about my set being a buzzer (which is why this issue was listed first). God must have blessed me with a non-buzzer. Honestly, I hope Samsung addresses this. For a TV at this price point, you SHOULD NOT have to gamble with a 50/50 chance of getting a buzzer. I have heard that most of the earlier models that have a build date of April or May are susceptible. June and beyond should be better. I don't know what my build date is as the box it came with was hauled away.

2. Lack of wifi - I'm not sure why this is a complaint. You can buy a 100FT Cat5 cable for to run to your modem. Wifi will add a higher premium to the TV, as will the separate wifi dongle. vs ...hmm, I wonder??? I'll pass. Not only is wired ethernet cheaper, you will have the best possible and stable connection to the internet for streaming. Period. Don't buy into the wifi fad, unless you absolutely need it (plaster walls; multiple levels, etc).

3. Motion Judder Canceller (MJC) - I can't BELIEVE how overhyped this is! I fired up the TV expecting the motion judder canceller to look like a 240hz LED (I absolutely detest the cheesy soap opera effect of LCDs), and the MJC is NOT THAT BAD on this plasma. What is everyone complaining about??? Coming from plasma, which is the king of motion response time, I can tell you the MJC is extremely tolerable on this set. Quite honestly, the MJC on the C7000 is somewhere in the middle of a LED 240hz and plasma; it feels like only half the speed of a normal soap opera effect. If you're as detailed as I am, you'll have read the 135+ thread pages on AVS regarding this plasma and the MJC for the C6500/C7000/C8000. Yes, it's installed by default. Not sure why Samsung did this as there are loyal plasma and film fans that don't want it. I do respect that. Luckily, there are some workarounds to this. I used Star Trek BD as a test, and disabled MJC from the TV; I wound up reactivating the feature since the picture quality looked noticeably better. Let me tell you, if it was that bad I would have used the workaround to permanently disable the MJC already. I wound up resetting my picture options to turn MJC back on, though. Being a loyal plasma owner, this must tell you something. Future firmware is also making this less of an issue.

4. Image Retention (IR for the tech savvy) - I have yet to experience this. This issue should really be a universal problem of all plasmas. However, as long as you break in your plasma for more than 100 hours, you should be good to go. Technically, Samsung stopped requiring a break in period for plasmas as of 2007. The old adage is still to do one. The C7000 manual clearly states there is a possibility of "image retention" (fancier slogan for burn in). Until plasma manufacturers GUARANTEE there is no chance of burn in, I will continue with the break in protocol that has been adopted since the birth of plasma. The burn in prevention technology Samsung uses is awesome, you get your choice of a screensaver, scrolling black/white page, and pixel shift. I use all of them. My old Samsung plasma didn't have tweakable burn in tech like this, and there was never IR. Keep in mind, I do heavy gaming. Once the C7000 passes the break in period, I'll start playing again.

5. Poor antiglare - I have heard that if this plasma is in a brightly lit room, or near a window, the antiglare doesn't help much. I can't really comment on this as I have a dedicated home theater room with no windows. This isn't an issue to me, which is another reason I passed on the C8000 plasma's marketing scheme of the "Real Black Filter".

6. Lack of "Real Black Filter" (RBF) - The C8000 has it but not the 7000. I believe it helps reduce the antiglare. I do know that it partly consists of a simple film that is attached to the screen; I heard some cases of it being removable. That seems cheap to me. I cannot discern if it's worth the extra 0 to get it. It is the only gimmick that people seem to know about versus the C8000.

7. Lack of Connectivity - This TV was designed without analog in mind, and purely for high definition and HDMI, which is the absolute BIGGEST complaint I have to agree with people about this TV. Specifically, the lack of S-Video, composite, and component outputs is quite upsetting. There is no S-Video output at all (not that surprising), and 1 component output that is shared with composite (major surprise for me), which basically means that you can only use one component or composite. Samsung's website states there are 2 components, and 1 side composite. NOT TRUE! There is only one shared component/composite port. That's all. How can a TV manufacturer get away with this? Several of my legacy analog devices are no longer compatible until I upgrade my receiver with HDMI passthrough (I'm using an older non-HDMI audiophile pre/pro). However, I have come to grips that S-Video is being deprecated. No current Samsung or Sony device implements S-Video anymore, and I believe LG and most BD players have followed suit as well. It's only a matter of time before S-Video is extinct completely. Nonetheless, there should have been AT LEAST one separate composite port, and one component, not a COMBINED composite and component. Samsung, fix your website specs!

8. Digital audio port - Another complaint of mine. Yes, you can connect a toslink optical cable from the TV to your receiver. No, it WILL NOT output Dolby Digital for any of your connected sources, only with DTV broadcasting. What this means is, if you connect your Xbox 360 or DVD player to your TV (with optical through your TV to your receiver), you will NOT get 5.1 digital audio. The TV will downmix the audio stream from the source component to 2 channel PCM. This is stated through the TV manual (page 11). What's the point of this? I feel this is purposely limited by TV manufacturers in order not to compete with their HTIB systems.

9. It's hot enough to fry an egg - This must be a case by case issue as I have no overheating issues whatsoever. My old plasma literally generated enough heat to warm my home theater room in the winter. No joke. You could feel the heat generated from the TV two feet away, and to touch the rear of the panel was quite hot. I should note that my old plasma was one of the very first to have "fanless cooling", which meant it was very quiet. I have been breaking in the C7000 overnight, and just today went to power it off. After 13 hours, the entire panel was almost cool. There is very little heat, which is a major concern for an electronic device. I did not feel any exorbitant amount of heat anywhere within 1 foot of the TV, certainly nowhere near as much heat as earlier generations of plasma. The C7000 has worked like a champ in this regard. This makes me happy as I have been known to literally play games 12 hours straight.

10. "It's not Samsung's flagship" - I beg to differ! I actually never saw the C7000 in person before purchasing. Magnolia had the C8000 and B860 on display, and I used that as a baseline. The B860 was last year's model, and the difference was discernable. If we did an A/B test in my home theater room with the C7000, C8000, and B860 models, I bet you would have a hard time picking one out over the other, or the results would be marginal at best. Save yourself $$$ by getting the C7000!!!


Last but not least, I should mention the entire reason you're probably reading this review: 3D. The 3D is PHENOMENAL!!! Forget any 3D demo you may have seen at a store. I watched 3D demos on Samsung LEDs, Panasonic plasmas, and Mitsubishi DLPs. I honestly wasn't that impressed. Holy cow, those store demos might be the reason people are skeptical about buying a 3DTV. Watching Monster VS Aliens was a total treat. The image REALLY DOES pop out at you (just watch the first few minutes and you'll see what I mean). Now on the flipside, I noticed an image ghost 3 or 4 times throughout the movie. It was noticeable in sharper scenes, mostly the character's hair. This happened near the middle and end of the movie (I guess the studio's wanted to impress everyone with the beginning of the movie). I had heard the 3D was horrible when these TVs launched, but with recent firmware updates, it has greatly improved. I would highly recommend adding the latest firmware before using this TV as a workhorse. Samsung, keep them coming!

The 2D-3D conversion is very cool, and adds value to the Samsung over any other 3D brand as they're the only ones (plus Sony) who have this conversion engine. Can the 3D be improved? Certainly. This is a first generation 3DTV though, so bugs were expected, as they should be with a new product launch (DVD wasn't perfect either, anyone remember The Matrix "white rabbit" DVD problem?). The images don't pop out as much with the 3D upconversion, but I also haven't properly calibrated the TV as I'm in the break in mode. If you're like me and buying this set for current 2D content, then the 3D is just a value-added bonus.

Luckily, Samsung has been excellent with releasing new firmware every month. My TV came with 1019 installed. I manually updated to 1022. If you check, there was just an update to 1026 was recently released. I highly recommend making sure you get the most up-to-date firmware as there are a lot of 3D fixes.

Amazon shipping - I was worried about this as several reviewers had received TVs with cracked screens. I heard one story where someone had to exchange their TV 3 times due to cracked screens. Good God, that would be upsetting! I once again lucked out. The shipping service was Pilot, and they were most excellent, especially since the TV arrived in perfect condition. I scheduled the delivery window online through a link emailed to me. I received a call an hour beforehand that they could deliver it sooner. Since it was before my 4-hour window and I was preoccupied, they came back at the scheduled time. They brought the TV in, unboxed it, set the TV on the stand, and powered it up. I had to sign a checklist that there was: no damage to the set, screen powers on, screen has no dead pixels/bad image, and remote works. They then took the box away. I would say the entire process took 10 minutes. What service! If I ever need another TV, I will use Amazon henceforth.


So that's my review. Take it as you will as I understand your mileage might vary. If you're on the fence, I would just order this set as you might be in the surprise of your life. CNET didn't review this set at the time when I ordered it, but they have now and it is currently listed as the best 3D set, and number 2 overall for 2D picture quality. Consumer Reports also rated this as a best deal TV.

I have heard some cases where the TV has worked perfectly, then 3 weeks later it takes a dump. I've had it about a month now, and will update this review appropriately should there be a change in my rating.

Unbelievable Detail
I am not one to normally write reviews, however i felt compelled to write this review since there is not much first hand information outside of CNET on the PNC7000. I am sort of a video file and have been do homework on my new TV upgrade for almost a year. I currently had a Samsung 40" LCD which i loved. The picture was amazing and i never had any ghosting, motion blur, or image problems whatsoever. I did need however a larger screen size, 58". I began looking at LED LCD's exclusively . Plasma wasn't even a consideration. I had my eye on the Samsung UN55B7000/8000 series. This LCD had received pretty good professional and user reviews. I was sold on this LCD until i watched one in person outside of the retailer showroom. The motion blur and dejudder were horrible and the colors and images looked unrealistic. At this point I starting looking at Plasma. I began to really look at the detail and realness of the plasma vs LED and not the brightness and vivid colors of the LED. Looking at TVs with this perspective showed me the major difference between the two technologies. I went to BB and did a side by comparison of the Samsung UNC6000/7000 and the Samsung PNC7000. The image detail was so much better on the plasma. Watching Discovery channel is simply amazing. The colors of the grass look real. The flesh tones looked real. Now its certainly not as bright as the LED and that takes some getting used to if you already have an LCD, but the Plasma shows much more realistic image quality. I did however really like the UNC8000, but it was way out of my price range. For under 2K with free blue ray and glasses this set cant be beat. As for 3D, its really cool. Although not a feature i needed to have, i am glad it does. It shows really well on MvA and I cant wait for more 3D content. Its a great feature. Style? this set gets major style points. It has a matte finish, hard to find over piano black, and a clear glass border which is sweet looking. It also comes mounted with a clear bezel on a stainless steel stand that looks killer. Great WAF(wife acceptance factor)

The reason I can't give this set 5 stars are as follows: Buzz! the only real issue from the users standpoint was the buzz. I took a chance and my set has a consistent buzz after start up. The good news is that i can only hear it when the volume(i am connected to a Yamaha receiver and Take 5 Classic surround speakers with Polk Audio 10" subwoofer) is down so low you wouldn't be able watch TV anyway. The Xbox 360 has a louder hum than the TV, but the TV should'nt have it at all. Its certainly not a deal breaker but the buzz is real. There is also no Standard AV connections on the back(this did not affect my rating). I needed to upgrade my wii cables to component video to be able to play it on this set. Not a huge deal and i should have looked it up prior to ordering. I just assumed there would be at least one standard AV connection. Could only give 4 stars because of the Buzz!

All in all i feel that this is the set to have for the price and image quality. 3D looks amazing, plenty of picture adjustments and settings, widgets(i have CAT6 hardwired for widgets and updates), blue ray looks outstanding, great stand alone image appeal and the set really captures the detail and realism over LCD, in my opinion.

Panasonic 65" Plasma TV
The LCD vs. Plasma vs. LED essays by Consumer Reviews are the most useful articles I found before purchasing this screen. ( [...] ) Because of their articles, I trusted this screen to be the perfect balance of size, viewing clarity from any angle, reduced glare, comprehensible options, and price. So far, it's better than I'd imagined.

If you go big, go for this one!
I bought this TV based on Raul's review. Thank you! I bought it on 8-20 and it was up and running in my home on 8-25. The delivery service was CEVA. They are a first class service, and sent two really nice guys to lug it upstairs and unpack it. The TV was not damaged anywhere, and they handled it with care.

I connected it to all my stuff, and the picture was great right out of the box. My calibration was a minor tweaking of some of the settings. The picture was bright and clear, with perfect color. Blu Ray movies are even better than I watched on my old Samsung 61 inch LED.

We are amazed at the picture, especially at this price. This is a true bargain.

Some people were disappointed by the 3 HDMI inputs. Well maybe one more would have been nice, but that problem can be solved with a receiver with multiple HDMI inputs or a lossless switch. Raul and others have done great reviews so no need to get into a lot of the technical aspects. I just wanted people to know who are considering this TV, to buy it. You don't have to be an electronics wizard to get a great picture.

Excellent Value, Especially for the Price!
First Off ...

To the guy that rated it 1 star -- Dude, read the specs before you purchase something, especially a ,000+ item ... geesh

Now, on to the P65S2 ... Hands down, an amazing buy. We got it when it was 25 w/ free shipping from Amazon! Can't be the price! We did the 100 hour break in, calibrated it to our liking, and have loved it ever since.

We are moving up from a 42" 720p Panasonic plasma that is about 4-5 years old now. We plan to put that one in our bedroom, and the 65S2 is now in our bonus room. We sit about 10 ft away from it, and its just awesome! Picture/Clarity/Black levels are wonderful ... Sound, well ... Its not the greatest, as you can expect from a TV, thus the reason you need a decent Soundbar, 3.1, or 5.1.

At this point in owning it (2-3 weeks) I have yet to have a single issue. Pilot delivered it and did a great job in allowing me to set it up and test it!

Overall A+++ Experience from Amazon, Pilot, & Panasonic. Will likely continue to get Panasonic as long as they keep making great equipment like this.

The only way to go for a 65" format
We got the TV a week ago, did the 100 hour burn in using software available for free online. Then, a day spent calibrating it to our taste and when all that was done, we had a spectacular picture, especially sing our BR player. We have owned a Panasonic Plasma for four years now, no burned out pixels, no quality issues at all, hopefully this one will be equally as reliable.

For those that want to use this with your PC, understand that this is a next generation TV and isn't going to interface to a normal video card. If your PC is current, it may well have an HDMI port on it and then this TV will work just fine. Or, if your Blu-Ray player is Internet ready, you will be able to download movies to it and watch them on the TV.

The sound quality from the TV is marginal at best, I'm not even sure why they put speakers in the set. I can't imagine anyone buying a set this size and not using a home theater setup with it. When played through our Onkyo system, who cares about the TV speakers.

If you're like me, you've probably researched LCD, LED, HDLP and Plasma and in sets this size, the transitional capability is much better than the other technologies in my opinion. No matter the level of the set, every LCD/LED set I previewed had momentary blurring in fast action scenes like sports. I get none of that on the plasma set. Although our media room allows for the proper viewing angle from every seat, you can get well outside the ideal range and the plasma picture is still accurate and bright.

There is some glare off the screen in bright light but again, in a dedicated media room application, it's not an issue. The price of this set has been dropping pretty steadily so it's quite a bargain at under K. Do check it very carefully when delivered, including using a flashlight at an oblique angle on the screen to detect any hairline cracks. It wasn't a problem with mine but have heard of screen being broken in transit and hard to detect small cracks in normal light.

I think Panasonic owns the plasma field and this is a another step up in what they offer.

Life-changing experience
We bought this TV and the LG ANWF100 USB WiFi adapter after considerable research to replace a 20" CRT TV. The picture looks fantastic from the factory: Whites are bright white, not bluish or yellowish, blacks are inky, skin tones look natural, and the backlight is very even. Blu-Ray disks look incredible, to the point where watching movies at the theater is disappointing. The image is incredibly crisp and clean with no motion artifacts that we've ever noticed. The TV also does an admirable job upsampling standard-definition sources such as DVDs and cable TV. Setup shouldn't be problem for technically minded people. From unpacking the TV to browsing our Netflix on-demand queue over our home WiFi network took less than an hour. The menus and remote are all very intuitive to use. One of our favorite features is the USB port for watching movies on a thumb drive (format the drive as NTFS to overcome the 2 GB file size limit with FAT32). I can't comment on the sound since it's hooked into a high-end two-channel stereo system. But this brings up the only criticism of the TV: The only audio out is a headphone jack; it has no line-level outputs.

a friend of mine who works in tech suggested this as a top notch 32 inch TV> It's pretty easy to use and I don't have any complaints! I am super happy with this!

I'm a college student who had a budget of about 500 dollars to spend on TV. I always wanted a 32" samsung television because I have always heard great things about their quality and performance. I limited my search to just samsung. The best I could do was the Samsung LN32C350, which is a great tv if you are utilizing it just for just watching television and movies but I'm an avid gamer. The minute i popped in call of duty I realized that picture was beautiful but the motion blur and motion artifacting were to much to bare. On top of that a dead pixel appeared on the screen within 2 days of purchase so i returned it. This was a blessing in disguise because a few days later,I opened my search to more brands and I found this LG which was a little over my budget but had everything i was looking for:

1. 120hz which offers smooth motion and very little motion artifacting, you can also adjust the judder and motion blur to your liking
2. 1080p full HD
3. Netcast which is great addition that allows you to stream full Hd movies, youtube videos and your netflix instant queue
4. 2.4ms response time which is relatively good for gaming
5. Beautiful picture which should be a given nowadays
6. 24 month 0% financing
7. Numerous options in adjusting picture
8: 4 hdmi, 2 component, 2 usb ports, and 2 av

Cons:
1: Stand is kinda a pain to assemble
2: Standard definition tv could look a little better
3: not that energy efficient(but does have an energy saving mode)
4: Sound is average
5: Hard to notice unless your looking for it but when 120hz is enabled on high there is haloing effect around fast moving objects not a real concern because almost every 120hz lcd tv that i have seen has some sort of picture distortion such as this

Ive only had it a few days but it has impressed me so much that i need to tell everyone about it. This is the second LG tv that my family and I have purchased(47LH90) and so far they provide a quality product that can be compared to the top brands today. Amazon offers this for 9 which is more then 0 off its regular price. If your looking for the biggest bang for your buck, I believe that this is what you are looking for.
